To all the commenters who blame the colonial period for the mess in Sri Lanka: Within Europe there were wars for decades. After the last one that ended in 1945 Europe was in economic shambles. Cities like London, Berlin, Dresden, Rotterdam were completely destroyed. People in Europe had nothing, no food or anything. And look at Western Europe now and compare this to Sri Lanka. Thanks to the Marshallplan, which was far less than all the financial help democratic Sri Lanka got after independance. Only countries in the East of Africa have reasons to complain, because they are severly suffering because of the climate change. And the countries that were ” liberated” by the Russians, like Romania and Bulgaria.
