Newly appointed Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said he expects to make some crucial and timely changes in terms of policies and individuals in the health sector.
He made this remark at a news briefing held at the health ministry yesterday (24) after he assumed duties as the Health Minister.
“As we are aware, the healthcare in Sri Lanka is confronted with a spate of challenges triggered by the recent economic crisis. Although several issues have been addressed, there is a lot to be fixed. Therefore, the support of all stakeholders is vital in the pursuit of putting things in order,”
Besides, he said, “I am determined to make relevant changes in the sector as it was required. As such, both structural and individual changes will be made in the long run.”
When asked what actions are to be taken to compensate those who died due to adverse reactions to drugs in the recent past, the minister stated that he needs a little bit of time to study the incidents.
“I guarantee that I will attend to each and every matter that has challenged the health sector and take remedies accordingly,” Dr. Pathirana added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
